ISA INTERCHILE puts into operation the country’s most important energy transmission project of the last 50 years

It is the last tranche of the Cardones-Polpaico Line, with a total length of 753 km and 500 kV, which will bring renewable energies into the National Energy System.
Through Cardones-Polpaico, wind and photovoltaic renewable energy generators will enter the system and transport all their energy to major consumption centers, which enables the decarbonization process of Chile’s energy matrix.
The Line will generate approximate revenues of USD 60 million.

This important energy milestone allows us to achieve the actual and complete interconnection of the 500kV National Energy System, directly benefitting millions of Chileans, who as of today will have a more robust, safe and reliable energy transmission infrastructure, more capable to face operational contingencies.

“After facing this important challenge, never seen before in the history of Chile, I would like to say that we feel proud, as more than 5 million Chilean homes will receive energy from power plants that generate energy that is clean and responsible with the planet. As per the projections, it is expected that by 2030 the emissions of the sector will decrease by approximately 60 million tons of CO2, through to the contribution of Cardones-Polpaico. This is how at ISA Group we continue to materialize our unbreakable commitment to life and to generate connections that inspire”, Bernardo Vargas Gibsone, ISA’s CEO, said.

The entire project required the construction of 1.728 high-voltage towers along 753 kilometers through the regions of Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, and Santiago. More than 5.000 people participated in the construction of the works, as well as 500 suppliers and service providers from 10 countries.

About ISA INTERCHILE ISA INTERCHILE

was created in 2012, after the ISA Group was awarded the bid by the Government of Chile to design, finance, build, operate, and maintain a 753-kilometer long energy transmission grid and associated works in the north and center of the country, known as “Cardones-Polpaico 2x500kV Transmission Line Chile Expansion Plan”, which represents an investment of approximately USD 1 billion.

Besides building and operating the Cardones-Polpaico line, ISA INTERCHILE is the operator of the Encuentro-Lagunas energy transmission line, which work was commissioned in April 2017. It has brought important benefits for Chile, ensuring the continuity of energy supply in cities such as Iquique, Arica, and the entire north of Antofagasta.
