ISA begins operation of electrical interconnection with Hidrosogamoso

The project will provide better attention to the future energy demand of the country and improve the quality and reliability of the system.
ISA’s affiliate, INTERCOLOMBIA, will operate and maintain the Substation and associated lines.
The Sogamoso Project began commercial operation, which will connect the Sogamoso Hydroelectric Plant, built by ISAGEN, with the National Transmission System (STN).

The high voltage electricity transmission project, to be operated and maintained by ISA’s affiliate INTERCOLOMBIA, comprised the design, construction, assembly and commissioning of a 230 thousand and 500 thousand-volt substation and three transmission lines to release such 820 MW of power produced by Hidrosogamoso.
To make this project possible, INTERCOLOMBIA built the Sogamoso substation, expanded ISA’s Guatiguará Substation and made adjustments to the Barrancabermeja and Bucaramanga substations owned by Electrificadora de Santander –ESSA-. Also, it was necessary to build the 230 thousand-volt Sogamoso-Guatiguará line and reconfigure the 500 thousand-volt Primavera–Ocaña line and 230 thousand-volt Barranca–Bucaramanga line.

This project, owned by ISA, will generate revenues for USD 4.8 million dollars per year (December 2010 dollars) to the Company. The project was intended to satisfy the future energy demand growth in the country, improve the quality and reliability of the National Transmission System, dissipate its restrictions, reduce operating costs by displacing the delivery of expensive generations and contribute to the development of the region.
