Environmental Finance Awards 2020 recognizes Conexion Jaguar as the Best Corporate Offsetting Project

This is an award given to the best stakeholders of the voluntary carbon market in 17 categories.
Conexión Jaguar, ISA’s main sustainability program, makes it the only Colombian company to be included in the Ranking.
Winners of the 2020 Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Ranking, one of the most renowned awards in the voluntary carbon market worldwide, were revealed. ISA, through its Conexión Jaguar Program and in a technical alliance with South Pole and Panthera, was voted by external organizations as the “Best Corporate Offsetting Project.”

To tackle climate change, ISA has a strategy that is aligned to priorities and joint actions between governments, society, and enterprises. Since 2011, this multilatin group began offsetting emissions by purchasing carbon credits. Over 25.000 Co2 tons have currently been offset in several energy transmission companies of ISA. This is one of the few Colombian carbon neutral companies.

However, commitment takes a step further with Conexión Jaguar: the company has evolved from being a purchaser of credits to supporting forestry projects in Latin America, where certified carbon credits are issued and traded under the highest international standards. The program currently supports seven initiatives in Colombia, Brazil, and Peru for a total potential reduction of over 6.000.000 CO2 tons in 784.908 hectares of forest. A total of 167 wildlife species have been registered in the Jaguar Corridor, across territories where ISA is present.

“We certainly feel very proud of receiving this award. Our intention is to operate our business units within an environmentally sustainable development framework. Also, ISA seeks to contribute resolutely to global causes such as biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. This way, we invite other companies to join us by offsetting their emissions with projects of our program,” said Maria Adelaida Correa, Sustainability Director of ISA.

ISA is the only Colombian company positioned in the ranking, with Conexión Jaguar. ISA was rated by one of the voters as “a flagship initiative in the utilities sector.” Another voter recognized ISA’s educational program, addressed at local communities, for the initiative to have “a long-lasting impact.”

The award is granted by the British organization Environmental Finance, an international leader in the analysis of environmental markets, green finance, and sustainable investments. Its website receives around 125,000 visitors per month, most of them coming from financial entities of North America and Europe.

Conexión Jaguar, a commitment to the planet

The program contributes to achieve the global targets of the 2030 agenda, such as the Paris Agreement, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). By 2030, Conexión Jaguar aims to support 20 forest conservation and restoration projects across the Jaguar Corridor in Latin America, expecting to reduce 9 million CO2 tons.

Call for Forestry Projects (2020)

Every year, the Conexión Jaguar program launches a call to support the best rural projects in Latin America that contribute to climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection. The projects selected will issue and trade carbon credits, certified under the highest international standards.

These are the two types of projects that can participate:

• Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR): seeding, cultivation, and/or assisted natural regeneration of trees to increase carbon stocks.

• Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) aiming to preserve forests by reducing deforestation and degradation.
